What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the yearn to get sober, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Silver City, North Carolina
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that motivates members to share their stories and reach out for help. Another type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Speaking of any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is why you can join an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
