What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for somebody wanting to get sober to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Madison, Virginia will help them build a support network to live a sober life. You will be greeted by your peers that have all lived and survived from alcoholism. Their survival of maintaining their sobriety is reliant on helping others and giving back to others the support that they received.
How to Choose an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Madison, Virginia
It is important when coming to Alcoholics Anonymous that you choose a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not solely for new comers but is a meeting that encourages them to speak their truth and ask for help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout Alcoholics Anonymous and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can join an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Madison, Virginia
In order to benefit the most from your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should remain open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The one piece of advice I was ever given was to sit down, stop talking, listen to the message, and humbly ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, the one constant will be message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another alcoholic which you will find in any AA meeting you choose to make your first.
