What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for a person seeking sobriety to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Columbia, Virginia will help them build a support system to help achieve sobriety. You will be welcomed by your peers that have all lived and survived from a hopeless state of mind and body. Their ability to maintain a sober life is reliant on helping others and giving back to others the gift that they received.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Columbia, Virginia
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that motivates members to share their stories and ask for help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to stay sober from alcohol. Speaking of any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is the reason you can attend an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From an AA Meeting in Columbia, Virginia
In order to benefit the most from your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should keep an open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The most beneficial thing I was told was to sit down, shut up, pay attention to the message, and humbly ask for help. Regardless of the meeting, that one thing that won’t change is the message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any AA meeting you choose to start with.
