What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is an assembly where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to discuss their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Dublin, North Carolina will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone seeking help with a drinking problem. There is no religion, creed or race, for membership, just the wish to stop drinking, and live a productive life without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Dublin, North Carolina
Alcohol Addiction is a disease of the mind, body, and soul. AA has created meetings to guide you through each individual piece of your independence from alcohol. If you are looking for a meeting on the 1st three steps, you should select a beginner meeting. If you are looking to focus on your spiritual side, attending a meditation meeting would be a recommended choice. If you want to hear other people’s journeys to sobriety, a speaker meeting is where you need to be. If you have completed your steps and are now working on the traditions of AA, a traditions meetings will help. If you want to attend a single gender group, you can go to a men’s or women’s meeting where you wont find anyone of the opposite gender there. Likely, there is a meeting for everyone. Try a few meetings out until you find one that fits your needs.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Dublin, North Carolina
The best way to benefit the most from your first AA meeting you should remain open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The one piece of advice I was ever given was to sit down, shut up, listen to the message, and graciously ask for help. Regardless of the meeting, the one constant will be message of recovering from a hopeless state of mind. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any meeting you choose to start with.
