What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for an alcoholic wanting to get sober to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Cochran, Georgia will help them build a support network to help achieve sobriety. You will be greeted by your peers that have all lived and survived from a hopeless state of mind and body. Their survival of maintaining this state is reliant on helping others and giving back to others the guidance that was given to them.
The Best Method of Choosing an AA Meeting in Cochran, Georgia
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that motivates them to speak their truth and accept help. The next type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Speaking of any other substance use addictions is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are focused on the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can walk into a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to get the most out of your initial meeting in Cochran, Georgia
To get the most out of your initial meeting you need to walk through the front door with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening announcements that you raise your hand to introduce yourself as a new member of AA. Make sure to inquire about a meeting list, with contact information of the group members. Last, but certainly not least don’t hesitate to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you through their doors that day.
