What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to share their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic's Anonymous meeting in Rosiclare, IL will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone seeking help with a drinking problem. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the wish to stop drinking, and live a happy & healthy life without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Rosiclare, IL
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that motivates members to speak their truth and accept help. The second type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to stay sober from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can walk into an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to benefit the most from your initial AA meeting in Rosiclare, IL
To benefit the most from your initial AA meeting you need to walk in with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening remarks that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Don't forget to request a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members. Last, but certainly not least don’t be afraid to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you to your first AA meeting.
