What is an AA Meeting?
AA is a program created to help alcoholics achieve sobriety. It is free to attend an AA Meeting in Rugby, Tennessee as the funding is voluntary based only from its members.
AA is one of most commonly recognized programs in the United States and around the world that helps countless men and women overcome their alcoholism in the pursuit of lifelong recovery. They are usually small groups of people who share their experiences getting sober and are there to help new members achieve sobriety.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Rugby, Tennessee
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that encourages them to share their stories and reach out for help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Speaking of any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is the reason you can attend a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to benefit the most from your first AA meeting in Rugby, Tennessee
To benefit the most from your first AA meeting you need to walk in with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening remarks that you raise your hand to introduce yourself as a new member of AA. Make sure to request a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members. The final thing to remember is don’t be afraid to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you to your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
