What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place where alcoholics and people who struggle with drug use gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Bridger, South Dakota will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone looking to get sober. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the want to get sober, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Bridger, South Dakota
It is important when coming to AA that you pick a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that inspires them to share their stories and accept help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions were created to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is the reason you can join an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Bridger, South Dakota
In order to get the most out of your first AA meeting you should remain open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, stop talking, listen to the message, and modestly ask for help. At any meeting, that one thing that will always be present is the message of recovering from a hopeless state of mind. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another alcoholic which you will find in any AA meeting you choose to start with.
