What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with drug use gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Adelphi, Ohio will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the want to achieve sobriety, and live a fulfilling life without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Adelphi, Ohio
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that motivates them to share their stories and reach out for help. Another type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to stay sober from alcohol. Speaking of any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply a specific step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can join an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Adelphi, Ohio
The best way to get the most out of your first AA meeting you should keep an open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, shut up, pay attention to the message, and graciously ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, there will be the same message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another person suffering from alcohol addiction which you will find in any Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you choose as your first.
