What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Melville, New York will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the yearn to get sober, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
The Best Method of Selecting an AA Meeting in Melville, New York
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to share their stories and accept help. Another type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Talking about any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are focused around the 12 traditions of AA. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can walk into a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From an AA Meeting in Melville, New York
The most successful members of AA tend to find success through going more for the program than just attending meetings. If you are attending your first AA meeting and really want to get sober, we suggest following the suggestions of the AA members that have been a part of Alcoholics Anonymous for a while.
It is smart to reach your hand out and accept help. Part of staying sober is helping the new members of AA in Melville live a sober life, so people are going to be more than willing to help you not drink too. Stand up, introduce yourself, admit that you need help.
