What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is an assembly where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to discuss their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Rochester, Michigan will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the wish to achieve sobriety, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
The Best Method of Selecting an AA Meeting in Rochester, Michigan
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that motivates members to speak their truth and accept help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Speaking of any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are focused around the 12 traditions of AA. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can attend an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Rochester, Michigan
In order to benefit the most from your first AA meeting you should keep an open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The most beneficial thing I was told was to sit down, stop talking, pay attention to the message, and humbly ask for help. At any meeting, the one constant will be message of recovering from a hopeless state of mind. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any meeting you choose to start with.
