What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for somebody wanting to get sober to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Atlanta, GA will help them build a support system to live a sober life. You will be welcomed by your peers that have all lived and survived from a hopeless state of mind and body. Their survival of maintaining a sober life is dependent on helping others and giving back to others the gift that they received.
How to Choose an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Atlanta, GA
It is important when coming to Alcoholics Anonymous that you choose a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to speak their truth and ask for help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other substance use addictions is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout Alcoholics Anonymous and holding each group accountable to these traditions is the reason you can walk into an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Atlanta, GA
The best way to get the most out of your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should remain open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, shut up, listen to the message, and humbly ask for help. Regardless of the meeting, that one thing that will always be present is the message of recovering from a hopeless state of mind. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another person suffering from alcoholism which you will find in any meeting you choose to start with.
