What is an AA Meeting?
AA is a fellowship organized to help those who suffer from dependence to alcohol obtain sobriety. It is free to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Santa Maria, California as the funding is voluntarily contributed from its members.
AA is among the most commonly recognized programs in the United States and around the world that helps countless men and women overcome their alcohol dependance in the pursuit of lifelong recovery. They are commonly made up of small groups of recovering alcoholics who share their experiences achieving sobriety and are there to help new members obtain sobriety.
The Best Method of Choosing an AA Meeting in Santa Maria, California
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that inspires members to speak their truth and ask for help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Speaking of any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are focused on the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were created to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can join an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to get the most out of your initial meeting in Santa Maria, California
To get the most out of your initial meeting you need to walk in with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening announcements that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Don’t forget to inquire about a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members. The last thing to remember is don’t hesitate to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you through their doors that day.
