What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Del Rio, California will share their experience getting sober through their personal anecdotes with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religion, creed or race, for membership, just the aspiration to stop drinking, and live a happy & healthy life without alcohol.
The Best Method of Choosing an AA Meeting in Del Rio, California
It is important when coming to AA that you pick a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that inspires them to speak their truth and accept help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is why you can attend a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Del Rio, California
In order to benefit the most from your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should remain open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, stop talking, listen to the message, and humbly ask for help. At any meeting, there will be the same message of recovering from a hopeless state of mind. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another alcoholic which you will find in any meeting you choose to pick as your first.
