What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to share their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Hoodsport, Washington will share their experience getting sober through their personal anecdotes with anyone looking to get sober. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the want to stop drinking, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Hoodsport, Washington
It is important when coming to Alcoholics Anonymous that you choose a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that motivates them to share their stories and reach out for help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout Alcoholics Anonymous and holding each group accountable to these traditions is why you can attend an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to get the most out of your first meeting in Hoodsport, Washington
To get the most out of your first meeting you need to walk in with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to be ready to arrive early and stay late because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening remarks that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Make sure to ask for a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members. The last thing to remember is don’t hesitate to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you to your first AA meeting.
