What is an AA Meeting?
A meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for an addict wanting to get sober to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Glocester, Rhode Island will help them build a support system to live a sober life. You will be invited in by your peers that have all lived and survived from addiction. Their ability to maintain a sober life is dependent on helping others and giving back to others the support that was given to them.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Glocester, Rhode Island
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not solely for new comers but is a meeting that inspires them to speak their truth and reach out for help. The second type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were created to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can attend an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to get the most out of your initial AA meeting in Glocester, Rhode Island
To get the most out of your initial AA meeting you need to walk through the front door with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to arrive 30 minutes early and stay 30 minutes after because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening remarks that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Make sure to inquire about a meeting list, with contact information of the group members. Last, but certainly not least don’t be afraid to raise your hand and speak, share the journey that lead you through their doors that day.
