What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for somebody seeking sobriety to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Amherst, Ohio will help them build a support system to help guide them to sobriety. You will be invited in by your peers that have all lived and survived from alcoholism. Their ability to maintain this state is reliant on helping others and giving back to others the support that they received.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Amherst, Ohio
It is important when coming to AA that you pick a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not only for new comers but is a meeting that inspires them to share their stories and reach out for help. The second type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is why you can attend an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Amherst, Ohio
The best way to get the most out of your first AA meeting you should keep an open minded. Everyone had preconceived notions of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, stop talking, listen to the message, and modestly ask for help. Regardless of the meeting, there will be the same message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another alcoholic which you will find in any Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you choose as your first.
