What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with drug use gather for one hour to share their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Boxford, Massachusetts will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the yearn to stop drinking, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
The Best Method of Selecting an AA Meeting in Boxford, Massachusetts
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to speak their truth and accept help. The second type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions are built to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can join a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to get the most out of your first meeting in Boxford, Massachusetts
To get the most out of your first meeting you need to walk through the front door willing to accept change and be open minded. Make sure to be ready to arrive early and stay late because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening remarks that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Don’t forget to request a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members. The last thing to remember is don’t hesitate to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you to your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
