What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place to spread a message of strength, hope and courage to other alcoholics. This is a safe place for an addict seeking sobriety to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Decoy, Kentucky will help them build a support network to help achieve sobriety. You will be invited in by your peers that have all lived and survived from a hopeless state of mind and body. Their survival of maintaining their sobriety is dependent on helping others and giving back to others the support that they received.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Decoy, Kentucky
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that inspires members to share their stories and accept help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are focused on the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and holding each group accountable to these traditions is the reason you can attend a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From an AA Meeting in Decoy, Kentucky
In order to benefit the most from your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should remain open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The one piece of advice I was ever given was to sit down, shut up, listen to the message, and graciously ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, that one thing that won’t change is the message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you choose to start with.
