What is an AA Meeting?
AA is a program created to help those who struggle from alcohol dependence achieve sobriety. There is no charge to attend an AA Meeting in Stanford, Illinois as the funding is voluntary based only from its members.
AA is among the most highly regarded programs in the United States and around the world that helps countless men and women overcome their alcohol dependance in the pursuit of lifelong recovery. They are commonly made up of small groups of people who share their recovery journey and are there to help new members achieve sobriety.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Stanford, Illinois
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not solely for new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to speak their truth and ask for help. The next type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to one gender. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to stay sober from alcohol. Speaking of any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can walk into a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in the world to hear the same message.

Make sure during opening announcements that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Make sure to ask for a meeting list, with phone numbers of the group members.
