What is an AA Meeting?
An AA Meeting is a place to spread a message of strength, hope and courage to other alcoholics. This is a safe place for an addict seeking sobriety to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Urbandale, Iowa will help them build a support network to help achieve sobriety. You will be welcomed by your peers that have all lived and survived from a hopeless state of mind and body. Their survival of maintaining this state is dependent on helping others and giving back to others the support that they received.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Urbandale, Iowa
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that inspires members to speak their truth and accept help. The next type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Speaking of any other substance use addictions is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can walk into a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Urbandale, Iowa
In order to benefit the most from your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should keep an open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The best advice I ever got was to sit down, shut up, listen to the message, and humbly ask for help. At any meeting, that one thing that will always be present is the message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another alcoholic which you will find in any Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you choose to start with.
