What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place to share experiences and success stories with other alcoholics. This is a safe place for somebody wanting to get sober to come in and ask for help. These AA Meetings in New Haven, Connecticut will help them build a support system to help achieve sobriety. You will be invited in by your peers that have all lived and survived from alcoholism. Their survival of maintaining their sobriety is dependent on helping others and giving back to others the support that was given to them.
The Best Method of Selecting an AA Meeting in New Haven, Connecticut
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of AA meeting is a new comers meeting and is not solely for new comers but is a meeting that encourages members to share their stories and reach out for help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other drugs is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply a specific step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. Not to be confused with the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can join an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to benefit the most from your initial AA meeting in New Haven, Connecticut
To benefit the most from your initial AA meeting you need to walk in with an open mind, and the willingness to change. Make sure to give yourself extra time at the start and end because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk. Make sure during opening announcements that you raise your hand to let the group know this is your first meeting. Don’t forget to ask for a meeting list, with contact information of the group members. The final thing to remember is don’t be afraid to raise your hand and speak, let the group know what lead you through their doors that day.
