What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with substance abuse gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in San Antonio, Colorado will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religion, creed or race, for membership, just the aspiration to stop drinking, and live a happy & healthy existence without alcohol.

Big Book Meeting – At Big Book meetings, a member will commonly read out of the Big Book and follow the reading with a discussion amongst its members.
Speaker Meeting – At an Alcoholics Anonymous speaker meeting, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous will tell their story and share their journey, strength, and hope with fellow members of Alcoholics Anonymous. The speaker may or may not take up all of the time and can often be followed by a discussion amongst the members.
Alcoholics Anonymous Literature Meeting – A literature meeting commonly revolves around reading from one of the Alcoholics Anonymous approved pieces of literature and an sometimes they open the floor to discussion at the end or a speaker about the literature of topic.
Step Study – An Alcoholics Anonymous step study traditionally focuses on a specific step or 2 per meeting. This can involve a speaker lead discussion about a particular step, literature reading, and could be followed by a discussion about the step(s).
Meditation Meeting – A meditation meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous can involve internal contemplation for a portion of the meeting or even the length of the meeting. The meditation may be guided and then followed by a discussion.
Traditions Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting – One or more of the Alcoholics Anonymous traditions will be discussed in extensively. This can be done with a speaker, literature lead, and could be followed by a conversation.

How to get the most out of your first AA meeting in San Antonio, Colorado
To get the most out of your first AA meeting you need to walk through the front door willing to accept change and be open minded. Make sure to be ready to arrive early and stay late because there is always a “before” and “after” for every meeting, where the members of the group gather outside and talk.
