What is an AA Meeting?

An AA Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to share their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Blende, Colorado will share their experience getting sober through their personal anecdotes with anyone looking to get sober. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the wish to get sober, and live a fulfilling life without alcohol.

Selecting An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting in Blende, Colorado

There are a variety different AA meetings in Blende, Colorado. Before selecting the meeting that you are going to attend, it is helpful to know the different types of AA meetings and what happens at each one.

Open Meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous – An Open AA Meeting is open to anyone who has a desire to attend. You do not have to be an alcoholic to go to an open Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting. Friends, family, and children can attend these meetings.

Closed Meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous – A Closed meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous is only for those who have a desire to stop drinking. Friends and family are not able to attend these meetings.

The speaker may or may not take up all of the time and members are often encouraged to share their thoughts before wrapping up.

Alcoholics Anonymous Literature Meeting – A literature meeting commonly involves reading from one of the Alcoholics Anonymous approved pieces of literature and an sometimes they open the floor to discussion at the end or a speaker about the literature of topic.

Traditions Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting – One or more of the Alcoholics Anonymous traditions will be discussed in extensively. This can be done with a speaker, literature lead, and might be followed by a discussion.

How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Blende, Colorado

In order to benefit the most from your first AA meeting you should remain open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The one piece of advice I was ever given was to sit down, shut up, pay attention to the message, and modestly ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, there will be the same message of recovering from hopelessness. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another alcoholic which you will find in any Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you choose to pick as your first.
