What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a program where alcoholics and people who struggle with drug use gather for one hour to express their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic’s Anonymous meeting in Central City, Illinois will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone looking to get sober. There is no religious, social or economic association for membership, just the desire to achieve sobriety, and live a fulfilling existence without alcohol.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Central City, Illinois
It is important when coming to AA that you select a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that encourages them to share their stories and accept help. Another type of meeting would be a gender specific meeting, which is only open to either men or women. A Closed meeting simply means the group is closed to any discussion that does not involve how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other substance use addictions is not allowed. A Step Study is a meeting that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can walk into an AA Meeting anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Central City, Illinois
The most successful members of AA have found success through going more for the program than just attending meetings. For alcoholics who are attending their first AA meeting and really want to get sober, we advise following the suggestions of the AA members that have come before you.
It is recommended that you reach your hand out and admit that you need help. Part of not drinking is helping the new members of AA in Central City maintain their sobriety, so people are going to be open to helping you get sober too. Raise your hand, introduce yourself, admit that you need help.
