What is an AA Meeting?
A meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous is an assembly where alcoholics and people who struggle with addiction gather for one hour to discuss their experience, strength, and hope. AA Members who attend an Alcoholic's Anonymous meeting in Salem, CT will share their experience getting sober through their personal stories with anyone working on their recovery journey. There is no religion, creed or race, for membership, just the yearn to stop drinking, and live a productive existence without alcohol.
The Best Method of Choosing an AA Meeting in Salem, CT
It is important when coming to AA that you pick a meeting that is best for where you are at in sobriety. The 1st type of meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that motivates members to share their stories and accept help. The next type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are closed to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Speaking of any other substance use addictions is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and spoken about in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings revolve around the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are not the same as the 12 steps. The traditions were established to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is why you can join an AA Meeting anywhere in across the globe to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Salem, CT
The most successful members of AA tend to find success through getting involved in the program. For alcoholics who are attending their first AA meeting and really want to get sober, we recommend following the suggestions of the AA members that have come before you.
It is recommended that you reach your hand out and ask for help. Part of staying sober is helping the newcomers of AA in Salem live a sober life, so people are going to be more than willing to help you get sober too. Raise your hand, introduce who you are, admit that you need help.
