What is an AA Meeting?
An Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting is a place to spread a message of strength, hope and courage to other alcoholics. This is a safe place for an alcoholic wanting to get sober to come in and ask for help. These meetings in Reed, AR will help them build a support network to live a sober life. You will be invited in by your peers that have all lived and survived from alcoholism. Their survival of maintaining a sober life is dependent on helping others and giving back to others the gift that was given to them.
How to Choose an AA Meeting in Reed, AR
It is important when coming to AA that you choose a meeting that is suited for where you are at in sobriety. The first type of Alcoholics Anonymous meeting is a new comers meeting and is not limited to only new comers but is a meeting that inspires them to speak their truth and accept help. The second type of meeting would be a single gender meeting, either a men’s meeting or women’s meeting. These types of meeting are not opened to the opposite sex. A Closed meeting simply means the group is solely focused on conversations regarding how to maintain sobriety from alcohol. Talking about any other illicit substances is not allowed. A Step Study is a gathering that is simply focused on a single step and discussed in length regarding the best approach to working this step and applying it to your daily life. Traditions meetings are based off the 12 traditions of AA. The 12 traditions are different than the 12 steps. The traditions were implemented to maintain order throughout AA and maintaining accountability to these traditions is the reason you can join a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous anywhere in the world to hear the same message.
How to Get The Most From a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous in Reed, AR
The best way to get the most out of your first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting you should remain open minded. We all had an idea of what these meeting were and generally it is the same misconception. The most beneficial thing I was told was to sit down, stop talking, pay attention to the message, and graciously ask for help. No matter the type of meeting meeting, that one thing that will always be present is the message of recovering from a hopeless state of mind. The process of recovering from that hopeless state is in asking for help from another addict which you will find in any AA meeting you choose to start with.
